Do we have a toxic fanbase?
Well, do we? Just a question, not a judgement.

Yes. We do have a  toxic fanbase. But, I do understand why, although it's completely self defeating.

Lots of our support that cause the toxicity,  started off supporting West Ham, when they were young in the 60's/70's/80's. They would have been carefree, enjoying West Ham occasionally winning stuff, getting pissed with their mates, paying next to nothing, standing on terraces.

Fast forward to the Sky era, these same supporters are now older, lost their humour,(probably some teeth and hair, too) they watch a team win fuck all - whilst paying lots of money for the privilege.

Then chuck in some shit ownership and a shit excuse of a football stadium and hey presto, you have a load of miserable fuckers whinging and moaning.

Unfortunately, the majority of the millennial generations don't have the gumption, humour or where for all, to try and drown out the moaning. They're too busy taking selfies, taking themselves far too serious and posting up shit on social media. When they can be bothered to sing, it's normally some half hearted shit version, of some shit northern cunt team's cunty, shit generic song.

Other than that, It's all good.

Re: Do we have a toxic fanbase?
not this shit again.

why has "toxic" suddenly become everyone's favourite word? 'toxic' relationships, fans, atmospheres etc etc.

Re: Do we have a toxic fanbase?
If toxic is saying what you think and ripping those it's aimed at a new one then yes, it used to work for us very well against the opposition fans and players, and was deemed at one time as 'giving you character'

Re: Do we have a toxic fanbase?
No we don’t.

The average season ticket holder here is no different to fans of other clubs.

Don’t make the mistake of thinking that what is said by some posters, on this niche Board, holds good for the rest of us.

Re: Do we have a toxic fanbase?
No more toxic than any other underachieving club . And as for that stadium show me a fan base that wouldn't be pissed off having to watch football in that .

I think our Home performances have benefitted from our fans being absent

Bib, I can show you up to 60,000 fans who put up with our home base.

Re: Do we have a toxic fanbase?
I'm taking toxic as being cutting, abusive and at times fucking funny.....I don't see what's scary about this word as it shows a bit of passion for who you support. If you have bad ownership/management or they care more about the corporate side of the game then this is a good fan to have. You only have to ask ex players what they thought of say 'The Chicken Run' for my reading of the term 'toxic'

Seconded.

I'd prefer to describe West Ham fans as ROBUST.

If by Toxic you mean, fat, bald and gout ridden then pretty much. Yes.

Re: Do we have a toxic fanbase?
For the older fans, it's more frustration than toxicity. Though of course, years of frustration can lead to toxicity so that element still exists.

20 years ago we had 'Arry proclaiming 'we're down to the bare bones' and here we are again, in exactly the same situation.

Even West Brom managed to bring in two strikers.

Re: Do we have a toxic fanbase?
Toxic in what way? I think we have a broad fanbase like most teams. We just have a lot who really give a very large shit.

Re: Do we have a toxic fanbase?
The idea of us being toxic has only been fed by the activities of the board in recent years. Literally promised us the salt of the earth and out right lied to get us to agree with the move which was going to happen whether we liked it or not, then Sullivan has had his cronies within mainstream media push a narrative that we as fans are never happy and always blame the board.
If the mainstream media actually read between the lines and did 5 minutes of research they would see why fans of this club have become 'toxic' due to having our pants pulled down.
Man utd for example go through a stage of transition after their best ever period in the game and having one of it not the best ever manager retire, the kick up a stink after not winning the league in years and everyone feels sorry for them.
We have literally had our club rebranded, moved, had lie after lie fed down our throats and 'we' are the toxic ones.
